Big Game, 2005/10

The Hunter expanded into a cycloramic photographic installation designed for the Snake Show Project Room, an annex of Annika Sundvik Gallery, New York, NY. The photo tableau then was interpreted into an animation, Big Game, where it included the original photograph that inspired the initial project - a hunter in Africa facing down a wounded lion, ca. 1915.

Unseen in the photograph yet their presence is felt, is that of the photographer. My question when making this piece was "How frightening was this for the photographer to be so close?" and "What was going through their mind?". When taking this into consideration, I decided I had to make a full room cycloramic installation and place the viewer inside the picture so that they could stand between the photographer on one wall and the tense and volatile moment on the other.
